This elegant yet hard-working kitchen is a highlight of a large home just outside of Boston that was designed by the owners personal architect. The three-quarter-inch solid wood cabinets, with inset, butt-hinged doors and constructed of Pennsylvania maple, house every culinary vessel within easy reach of the 60-inch Wolf range. From the glassed-in upper cabinets to the English-style, cut-in toe kicks, the kitchen is a perfect blend of form and function

Our Philosophy

Throughout American history, the cabinetry in every room of the house chronicled, displayed, reflected and preserved the experiences, accomplishments, and values of the family members. Today that tradition continues with cabinetry by Finlay. Like a custom-designed dress or an exquisitely tailored suit, cabinets by Finlay are designed by our creative team exclusively for you, and nobody else. When you engage with Finlay, forget the word impossible. There is no detail that we will not address, no measurement that we will not draw. The smallest details of external appearance and functional capabilities hidden from view often make all the difference.

The Finlay Experience

At Finlay, there’s no warehouse full of pre-made, stock cabinets. We carry no inventory for sale. Instead, we design and build to your exact specifications, creating the cabinets meet precisely your expectations for life in each room of your home.

How We Work with You

Our design process includes a complete CAD drawing of your existing or contemplated rooms. We incorporate a three-dimensional rendering of your design, so that you can envision, understand, and adjust any part of the design before we begin manufacturing.

The Finlay Way; Methods and Materials

Cabinet making demands a high level of skill and intricate, painstaking attention to detail. Any thought of cutting corners is anathema. We use only three-quarter-inch solid wood. Sturdy mortise-and-tenon joinery (above), with all joints glued and set for 48 hours for maximum curing, ensures lifetime stability. We employ dovetailing and soft-close runners on all drawers, and soft-close hinges on every door. Result: complex pieces of furniture that are beautiful, functional, and durable.

The Finlay Way; Colors and Finishes

Finlay uses only the highest quality paints, and we mix all colors, stains, and dyes in our state-of-the-art mixing station. You don’t pick a color from a chart; rather, we create your color from scratch, and we mix only one lot so as to maintain the exact desired tone and color continuity. Most paint manufacturers insist on a ten-percent range of variation between desired color and delivered product. Not at Finlay. Because we control all the mixing, you can expect a perfect match from sampling to production.

Finlay’s furniture-quality finishing doesn’t end with color selection. Our 22-step process includes several rounds of sanding and priming. In addition to painting or staining, your finish may be glazed, distressed, high-glossed, antiqued, sponged, ragged, or combed.

Our Clients: Demanding and Discriminating

We believe that in almost any business that provides fine goods and expert craftsmanship, it is the customers who do the most to create and define the firm. Whether you are an individual home owner, a designer, an architect, or a developer who caters to prestigious clientele, we are here to serve you.

The Finlay Promise

Nowhere on earth is more important to you than your home. You expect and demand only the best of everything where you and your loved ones live. We pledge that the cabinets that we design and build to your unique specifications will be the best for you.
